The Criterion Closet = Heaven
The Criterion Collection is one of the biggest, and best, places where physical media lives for film lovers. The criterion’s mission is to bring films from different places and languages to one place. That’s why most films are sometimes obscure and not as well-known. It’s a good place to expand your knowledge and watch things you would have never otherwise. But they don’t only appreciate their life on the shelf, but also the artist behind the film.
Often, the DVDs come with extra goodies such as cut scenes or interviews with the actors. It’s so delightful to see it all in one place. Criterion is know for their ‘Criterion Closet’ where people such as those in the industry are entered in a world of their dreams and are allowed to pick a few of their favorite films. This is a great way to let these people show their love of filmmaking to their audience and inspire others to watch their picks or even purchase them. Thankfully the closet has expanded and now the truck comes around once in a while and blesses us to a quick peak around the closet where we can make our own video style video, as we talk and pick our films.
They have subsequently brought films back from the dead, essentially going through a lengthy process of finding the source of their original source. From a video by Gizmodo on YouTube, they follow Lee Klein, the technical director, as he shows to process of recovering films that are no longer shown or in use. The recovery process represents their true passion for film and everything they do in their power to not let it disappear.
I’m so glad I was able to find a place that is managed with love and passion for art. I’m excited everytime I buy from them, whether I know the film or I’m about to watch it for the first time, it’s going to be on of the best. By producing their DVDs in Blu-ray and 4k Ultra HD they ensure that these have a long life, and if cared for properly a forever life.
